Our story
Fragrance is personal.
A bottle can look right on paper, sit beautifully on a shelf, and still wear completely differently once it's actually on your skin. That gap between how a fragrance sounds and how it feels is where Sillage started.
Why we started
Most of us have stood in front of a fragrance counter working out whether to spend fifty, eighty, sometimes well over a hundred pounds on a bottle we've smelled for less than a minute. You get a spray on your wrist, maybe a card, and you're expected to decide there and then. But fragrance doesn't reveal itself in a minute. It changes over hours. It reads differently on your skin than on a tester strip, and differently again the next time you wear it, in different weather, with different clothes, on a different day.
We got tired of buying full bottles on that kind of guesswork, and just as tired of never trying the fragrances we were genuinely curious about, because the only way in was a full-size commitment.
What we do
Sillage offers genuine designer and niche fragrances in smaller measures: 2ml, 5ml and 10ml. Nothing is diluted, blended or "inspired by" anything. Each measure comes from the real bottle, transferred into our own atomiser, so what you receive is exactly what the house intended, just less of it.
The idea is simple. Wear a fragrance properly, more than once, for long enough to understand how it actually develops on you, before deciding whether the full bottle deserves a place on your shelf.
Who it's for
Some people already know exactly what they want and just want it in a size they'll actually get through before it turns. Others are still working out what suits them and don't want to spend a small fortune finding out. Sillage is built for both, and for everyone in between who is simply curious about a fragrance they've read about or noticed someone else wearing.
We try to keep things straightforward. No pressure to know the difference between an aldehyde and an accord before you start. No assumption that you should already have a "signature scent." Fragrance is worth taking seriously without taking yourself too seriously about it.
How we think about it
We're not trying to reinvent perfumery. The houses that make these fragrances have already done that work, in some cases over generations. Our job is smaller and more practical: make it easier to actually experience what they've made, at a size that makes sense for exploring rather than committing.
That means being honest about what a decant is and isn't. It's not a miniature bottle from the brand. It's a measure taken from a genuine full-size bottle and prepared in our own atomiser, clearly labelled with the house and fragrance it came from. We think that's a fair way to get to know a fragrance before deciding whether it's worth the bigger investment.
Where we're headed
We're still building the collection, adding houses and fragrances as we go, and paying attention to what people are actually asking for. If there's a fragrance you'd like to see us carry, we're always glad to hear about it.
Sillage exists because trying a fragrance shouldn't mean guessing, and finding the one you'll actually wear shouldn't mean buying three others first.
